Our Personal
Wilderness Journey
Walking in His Light, Guided by His Spirit, Held in His Hesed

"For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ."

— D&C 84:45
What if the Endowment isn't just ceremony —
it's a map of the journey you're already on?
Abraham & Isaac
We see Christ in the offering — a type pointing forward
Moses & the Serpent
We see the Atonement in the uplifted symbol
The Passover Lamb
We see deliverance by blood — a type pointing to mercy
We recognise types pointing to Christ.
Do we recognise the types pointing to our own covenantal journey home?
Three Ancient Types — One Eternal Pattern
1
Children of Israel
Cast out of Egypt, tested in the wilderness, guided by pillar of fire — led step by step toward a promised land they could not yet see
2
Lehi's Dream
A dark and dreary wilderness, an iron rod, a strait and narrow path — the whole journey compressed into one night's vision of the Love of God
3
Lehi's Family Journey
Eight years in the wilderness, guided by the Liahona — which only worked by faith. The instrument was always present; the question was always responsiveness
THE PROPHETS WHO LIVED THIS PERSONALLY
Abraham
Cast out, wandering, not knowing where he went — held to a promise he could not verify except by hesed
Enoch
"I am but a lad, and all the people hate me" — yet he walked with God until an entire city was translated
Enos
A day and a night wrestling alone in the wilderness of his own soul — and the voice came: "thy sins are forgiven thee"
Joseph (Egypt)
Pit → slavery → prison — every stage of apparent abandonment was the wilderness preparing him for what only the wilderness could produce
Moses
Forty years in Midian — palace to desert, prince to shepherd — before the burning bush made sense of all of it
Joseph Smith
Sacred Grove to Liberty Jail — D&C 121 is hesed spoken into a dungeon: "all these things shall give thee experience"
The Core Message

Learning to trust God — abiding in His Light, led by His Spirit, held in His hesed — to be brought back into His love, peace, and presence

This is the pattern — and hesed is the covenant thread holding it together
The Endowment teaches it
Israel & Lehi's family demonstrated it
We LIVE it through revelation
From Ancient Map to Daily Life
The Endowment
teaches the pattern of the journey — cast out, tested, guided by light, returning to His presence
The Liahona
is how you navigate it — "according to the faith and diligence" you give to it (1 Ne. 16:28)
Daily Revelation
is what living the map looks like — a practical, repeating cycle available to every covenant keeper
"…if we follow its course, it will carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise" — Alma 37:45
This pattern is not just ancient history. It is hidden in plain sight — even in the Church's program for its youth.
Hidden in Plain Sight
The Liahona Life pattern is encoded in the Children & Youth Program
Discover → Plan → Act → Reflect
Discover
Receive the prompting — perceive what God is showing you
Plan
Respond with intention — the seed swells and enlightens
Act
Nourish in faith — roots deepen through doing
Reflect
Taste the fruit — see God's hand, receive more revelation
This is the Endowment's wilderness pattern made weekly and personal — the same map, lived at human scale
The Living Revelation Cycle
How the Cycle Works
  • DISCOVER — Receive a prompting; write it down before it fades
  • PLAN — Record your intention; commit in writing before God
  • ACT — Move in faith; document the experience as it unfolds
  • REFLECT — Write to see God's hand; this is where revelation multiplies
Journaling is the method that makes the cycle visible — writing revelation down invites more revelation Pres. Kimball · Elder Scott · Pres. Eyring · Pres. Nelson

Alma 32: The Growth Pattern Revealed
"Because ye have tried the experiment, and planted the seed, and it swelleth and sprouteth and beginneth to grow, ye must needs know that the seed is good."

Walk with Me
Covenantal Hesed — The Heart of the Wilderness Journey
חֶסֶד (hesed)
loyal love, steadfast covenant faithfulness, loving-kindness that will not let go
God's Invitation
"Thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me" (Moses 6:34). To an uncertain Enoch, the Lord doesn't say "perform for me" — He says abide in me, I in you, then walk WITH me. Mutual indwelling before the journey even begins. This is the Endowment's deepest promise.
The Liahona as Hesed
The Liahona only worked "according to the faith and diligence and heed" given to it (1 Ne. 16:28). It never stopped being present. It never withdrew its potential. God's hesed is always extended — our responsiveness is simply what opens the channel. The instrument was never the problem.
Our Weekly Renewal
Every sacrament is a brand-new covenant — not a reminder of baptism, but a fresh enactment of the covenant itself. We come with a broken heart and contrite spirit. His hesed meets us there — not with accusation but with the same words He spoke to Enoch: "Walk with me." The wilderness journey begins again, renewed, each week at the table of the Lord.
The Endowment Was Always a Map
And you have been walking it all along
The Endowment teaches it
Cast out. Tested. Guided by light. Led by the Spirit. Returning to His presence — the pattern woven into every ordinance you have received
Israel & Lehi lived it
Ancient types are not merely history — they are mirrors. Every wilderness they crossed was a type of yours. Their Liahona was your Liahona.
You are living it now
Discover • Plan • Act • Reflect — approached with a broken heart, tasting the Love of God, held every step in His hesed
The goal of the Endowment is not ritual completion —
it is return to His presence.
That is where the wilderness was always leading.
That is the fruit. That is the Love of God.
Where we began "The word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light,
and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ."
— D&C 84:45 This is what you have been walking in all along —
His word, His light, His Spirit. His hesed at every step.
